MANILA – National Reinsurance Corporation of the Philippines’ (Nat Re) President and Chief Executive Officer Allan R. Santos received the Outstanding CEO award at the InsuranceAsia News Country Awards for Excellence 2023, recognizing his exemplary leadership towards bringing Nat Re to greater heights and fostering the healthy, sustainable and inclusive growth of the Philippine insurance industry.

Despite the combined impact of various challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine War, and super typhoon Odette that hit the Philippines in 2021, Santos led the country’s national reinsurer to achieve significant growth and positive net income in the past years, allowing it to enter the Philippines’ 2022 Growth Champions – a list of Top 25 Philippine companies that achieved the highest percentage growth in revenues.

Moreover, Santos’ leadership helped foster innovation, and paved the way for the creation and further promotion of new and meaningful products and services, including the introduction of Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) reinsurance, the Personal Cyber Reinsurance Facility, support for microinsurance expansion, and catastrophe modeling support for cedants, among others.

The award also recognizes Santos’ contribution to the wider insurance community and his many works to further improve and promote the insurance industry. As President of the East Asian Insurance Congress last year, he led the planning and execution of its Diamond Jubilee conference. He is also actively involved in the advancement of industry standards and professional development with his Board memberships at the Actuarial Society of the Philippines (ASP), the Insurance Institute for Asia and the Pacific, and the Philippine InsurTech and HealthTech Association.
