Nat Re Expands Forest Footprint with 400 Native Trees in Sierra Madre

,

SINILOAN, Laguna – The National Reinsurance Corporation of the Philippines (Nat Re) continued its commitment to environmental sustainability by planting additional 400 native trees at the University of the Philippines Laguna-Quezon Land Grant, located within the Sierra Madre Mountain Range in Siniloan, Laguna, in July 2024.

This latest initiative follows Nat Re’s coastal planting activity in La Union last May and is part of the company’s long-standing partnership with FEED’s Ridge to REEForestation program, which began in 2019. The newly planted trees include 130 Kupang, 130 Apitong, and 140 Marang, all sourced from local nurseries managed by UP’s permanent forest guardians.

Assisting in the implementation were forest stewards Randy Velina, Joel Velina, and Obien, who supported the project through site preparation, seedling selection, and planting. Local laborers from nearby barangays, trained in nursery propagation, wildling collection, and seedling maintenance, were also engaged in the activity—many of whom are being prepared for larger annual plantings at the site.

The project reflects Nat Re’s ongoing efforts to embed sustainability into its corporate culture and operations. “We are fully committed to more consciously managing our business’ impact on the economy, the environment, and the greater society, and monitoring our contributions to achieving universal sustainability goals,” a company representative stated.
